Life of Bakari

 

At 22, Bakari Henderson, of Austin, Texas, was murdered on the Greek island of Zakynthos on July 7, 2017, while pursuing his dream of launching his clothing line, Bakari Luxury Sportswear, which he conceptualized as a young teenager.   

In his early years, Bakari overcame dyslexia.  Through ups and downs, personal drive, and tenacity, he persevered to become a scholar and an athlete.  He went on to receive a full academic scholarship from the University of Arizona, where he graduated with a degree in Business Finance and Entrepreneurship less than 2 months prior to the tragedy in Greece.  

Bakari was a quiet storm who shared his love and compassion with family and friends through thoughtful sentiments and encouraging words.   He shared his passion and love for people of all cultures as an avid traveler.  He visited China, Germany, the Netherlands, France, Spain, Italy, England, Monaco, Columbia, and Greece, using money he saved from his various business ventures.

Bakari lived by the motto “Plan B is for those who are not confident in their Plan A.” He was confident about his plan in life, inquisitive about all things financial and global, and relentless in achieving his goals as an entrepreneur.   He had a singular focus:  build a business empire and demonstrate what it means to live fully and fearlessly.

Bakari Henderson is the beloved son of Phil and Jill Henderson and brother of P.J. and Jory.  Our family is turning pain into purpose by continuing Bakari’s legacy.  His dream lives on as we proudly bring Bakari Luxury Sportswear (BLS), a cause brand, to fruition.   The brand celebrates and embraces Bakari’s lifestyle providing active people with a feeling of comfort and sophistication as they pursue their life’s dreams and desires.    

BLS will also contribute a portion of all sales to The Bakari Foundation, which was founded to serve and support other families who have lost loved ones at the hands of another. With the mission of providing transformative travel experiences of healing, peace, and clarity for families, the work of the Bakari Foundation honors the life and legacy of Bakari Henderson by melding his enthusiasm for travel and his caring spirit to help others.
